Dark Sky Land, a non-profit corporation focused on preserving New Mexico’s dark skies.

The Dark Sky Land Astro-Wildlife Corridor is an environmental initiative dedicated to night sky preservation, conservation & public engagement, in an already exceptionaly wild and dark New Mexico region.

DSL’s multidisciplinary background and approach connects land and people to the cosmos, ancestral knowledge, local communities, space, the natural world.

A synergetic network coming together to raise awareness for the beauty and fragility of the night sky and the life that depends on it.

Our mission is to rapidly preserve a 200-mile Astronomical-Wildlife corridor from the hidden impact of light pollution’s existential threat to astronomy, human health, biodiversity, bird migration and wilderness.

Our strategy is to introduce a sustainable and innovative form of interdisciplinary initiatives, which promote the creation of rural educational program development, creative and sustainable projects, star events, nature-astro-tourism, adventure, resetting, preserving

Launched in 2023, Dark Sky Land is growing from a series of interdisciplinary advocacy projects into a New Mexico State movement of individuals, groups and organizations taking action for the protection of New Mexico’s National Forests, Wildlife, Biodiversity, Heritage, Native History, Astronomy through the Night Skies.

PROJECTED INITIATIVES INCLUDE (2024)

June 8 | Cosmic Campground Star Event | In celebration of the Gila National Forest’s 100 years.

June 15-16-22-23 | Dark Sky Land Site-Specific Installation at the Santa Fe Railyards / 8:30 PM to 10:30 PM, in collaboration with the New Mexico DarkSky Chapter, XERES Society for invertebrate Conservation, Audubon Society, regional space scientists, astrophotographers, creators.

June 29 | Dark Sky Indigenous Land Initiative. Local Star Event at the Jemez Pueblo

September/October, 2024Comet A3’s Tsuchinshan + Astro Event at Pi-Astro Site | By Invitation Only.

October 2024 | The Enchanted Skies Star Party | Magdalena Astronomical Society | Online Registration.

2024-2025 | Dark Sky Land Exhibition Series . Night Ecology Advocacy throughout the state of New Mexico. Locations include: Magdalena / Santa Fe / Reserve / Pietown / Silver City / ABQ / Las Cruces
